Mary Hannah Klontz

Mary-Hannah Klontz received her M.M. in French Horn performance from the Eastman School of Music and her B.M. in French Horn, Piano and Voice from the University of Akron.  She is the Arts Education Specialist for Arlington Virginia Public Schools where her she has taught vocal music at the elementary, middle and high school levels.  Mary-Hannah also directs the Chamber Chorale of Fredericksburg, a semi-professional adult chorus, and serves as the Co-Chair for the Kennedy Center Metropolitan Arts Council.

She is a certified Creative Motion and Orff-Schulwerk teacher who enjoys the movement and improvisation elements of both of these approaches to music. Mary-Hannah has been active as a professional musician in the Washington D.C. area, as a member of the Washington Chamber Singers, the Master Chorale of Washington, The Riverside Brass and Associate Music Director at Redeemer Lutheran Church. In addition, Mary-Hannah has played French Horn in the Rochester Philharmonic, Israel Sinfonietta, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Lexington Symphony Orchestra and Canton Symphony Orchestra. Mary-Hannah credits her versatility in music to her training in Creative Motion from a young age.

Mary-Hannah was a student of Marilyn Alcala who introduced her to Creative Motion in 1971.   Mary-Hannah serves as a faculty member at Windswept, the annual summer Creative Motion Conference and as a consultant to the Choralis Youth Choir program in Falls Church, VA.  She is a Past President of the Creative Motion Alliance and has served on the Creative Motion Certification Board.  Mary-Hannah Klontz may be reached at MHSongbird@comcast.net or 703-244-8315.
