Dr. Doris Pohl, pianist and a native of Tennessee, was educated at Berea College, Berea, Kentucky where she majored in music and received a Bachelor of Arts degree; Northwestern University, Evanston, IL where she received a Master of Music degree with focus on piano performance; and Washington University, St. Louis Missouri, where she earned a Ph.D. in Music with performance emphasis.
While a student at Berea College, Dr. Pohl studied piano with Margaret Allen. Mrs. Allen as a young person attended workshops with Martha Russell, who developed the Creatie Motion philosophy/method. Mrs. Allen started her own annual workshop, originally established for the benefit of Kentucky piano teachers, while Pohl was her student. Pohl was invited to attend the first Windswept Music Workshop in 1951, to help in various practical ways and to perform for teh teachers. She has since been associated with the workshop as it has grown in numbers adn in outreach, sometimes as a workshopper and sometimes as a teacher.
Dr. Pohl's career has included teaching paino, serving as church music directgor, both playing organ and directing choirs; and performing as a solo pianist, accompanist, and chamber musician. Now retired from teaching piano at Washinton University and Webter University and from church music, Dr. Pohl continues as a private piano teacher and adjudicator.
The principles of Creative Motion have been very much a part of all her musical pursuits, both in teaching and in performance. Dr. Pohl has served on the faculty for the annual Creative Motion conference (Windswept Music Workshop) countless times, assisting in the body tuning classes, leading advanced classes, and teaching applications to piano literature.
She currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri.

Robert Arthur Pohl of Kirkwood died Thursday, March 13, 2008.
Mr. Pohl was an only child born Aug. 31, 1919 in St. Louis, to Ernest and Ida Pohl. He graduated from Rolla School of Mines, Class of 1942. As a distinguished alumnus, he was an active member of the Academy of Chemical Engineering and the Order of the Golden Shillelagh Donor Society.
During his 43 years of loyal employment with Monsanto he lived in St. Louis; Anniston, Ala.; and Brussels, Belgium. Mr. Pohl was employed by Slay Industries for 18 years until his recent illness. He had been a devoted member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood and volunteered his time to the Boy Scouts and the church. He also served on the lay board of directors for DePaul Hospital.
One of his many joys was to be a "cheerleader" to his children and grandchildren when participating in sports, school and professional activities.
Mr. Pohl was the husband of Doris Pohl; father of Robert Arthur Pohl (II), Guy and Patty Pohl, Christy Pohl, Jeffrey and Brenda Pohl, Laura and Jeffrey Waller, and David and Beth Reynolds. He was the grandfather of 16; great-grandfather of three. He loved to express the endless joy his family brought to him.
