Marion Flagg was one of those lucky few who were able to live, work and study with Martha Russell at her seaside home. Through her efforts and the work of countless others, Creative Motion study has been passed from teacher to student through the years, and continues to this day. |

"Marion Elizabeth Flagg was born in Oil City, Pa. and grew up in western New York and Pennsylvania. She obtained a public school music teaching certificate from Syracuse University (1918), and B. S. (1928) and Masters degrees from Columbia University (1932).
She was music consultant for the Dallas Independent School District for more than 20 years, retiring in 1964. She started in Dallas in 1940 and became nationally known to music educators through her many articles in national publications and her participation in state and national music organizations.
Her textbook was used throughout the United States. "Musical Learning: A Guide to Child Growth" represents well her connection with Martha Russell, the founder of Creative Motion. In it she parallels the teachings of Jacques Dalcroze, Abby Whiteside and Martha Russell. It is one of the few academically recognized books still present in many music libraries today to mention Martha Russell and her work. Flagg came under the influence of Russell at roughly the same time as Opal Gilpatrick did, during the summer sessions in La Jolla, California.
She died on July 9, 1968 in Florida where she was conducting a music clinic at St. Leo College.
